Knowing what you want to do for the rest of your life is very tricky. People usually think of what course they want to take up during high school and college so that they can study it and fulfil their dreams in the future- it’s that very important stage in your life where you choose the right course fit for your personality so you can make your way up there and reach your goals. Back in the early 2000s, people found it very hard to find schools that offer fashion/ art related subjects- more schools focused on business courses. It was very hard to find a school where you can let all your creativity out, and that’s why I’m sharing with you guys Raffles Design Institute (RDI)– a school that focuses on entrepreneurship, innovation and empowerment. I had the privilege of sitting in on one of their classes, but before I share with you my experience, let me tell you what RDI is all about.
Raffles Design Institute (RDI) is a school that focuses on fashion and business, making you be more inspired everyday to do what you already love doing and just enhancing it more. When you enter their hallway, you’ll automatically see this. who wouldn’t be inspired, right? For all your fashion lovers out there, you’d definitely want to study here.
They offer five courses in RDI: Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing and Management, Visual Communication, Interior Design and Business with Specialization. Each room has a unique feel so that the students will feel motivated to learn new things all the time. Of course, it also depends on the course you’re taking.
Welcome to the Interior Design room. I took photos of some of the students’ works just so you have an idea how they study. I love the clean mood board and the mix of the tiles/ woods she chose.
They also have a huge wall where they can post all their inspirations and works. It makes me want to take up interior design as a course too! I love that RDI knows how to make their students be inspired more.
Welcome to the Fashion Drawing studio. Future designers will love it here at RDI. I really have high respect for designers; it’s not easy what they do. We usually see the final product but we don’t see how hard it is to actually make one.
At RDI, they have huge white boards where you can just draw and let your hand do the talking. It’s such an artsy school, I love it!
Welcome to the Sewing room. It’s an entire room just for sewing classes. I’ve never tried this my entire life, maybe I should try it out. Here, they teach you pattern-making and everything you need to know about the basics of making a dress.
Welcome to the Draping room. Can I just say, I love drapes, but they’re so hard to achieve!
Their student lounge is so cool- you can stay here if you have a long break or if you just want to chill. You can write on the walls because RDI believes that you should let your imagination be real. I remember I used to draw on my walls back when I was little and my mom would always tell me I can’t draw on our walls because it would ruin our house! Hahaha.
Now, RDI asked me what class I wanted to sit in and I chose Graphic Design because I wanted to learn how to enhance my photoshop skills. Professor Sven Pfrommer told me they were on their last few weeks of class so it’s better if I just observe the class and see what they’re doing.
Here I am at the Mac Laboratory. Yes, they have a Mac laboratory and it’s freaking awesome!!!
The students had to make a graphic ad for their final project and they were just googling images to see how they can make theirs. You know, we need more graphic artists in our country, so you can list this as one of your future jobs too.
Feeling student rin! I asked a lot of questions from professor Sven about photoshop and he really helped me a lot. When I was observing the students and how they made their ads, it was so inspiring. As in I was so impressed with their works. It just simply means that RDI did a good job by teaching their students what they really needed to learn.
Now, I always believe the power of good education, that’s why RDI and I would like to help you too…
