Hello Brussels! I still can’t believe my sister Liz and I did a side trip a few months ago to Belgium from London for only two days. Yep, it was an overnight trip (work related for Liz and I was her assistant for the trip lol) and I just had to make sure our itinerary involved visiting all the must-see spots and eat all the best food they have to offer.
We stayed near Chatelain, the trendy neighbourhood where all the nice restaurants and malls are so it was very convenient for us try roam around. We wanted to try Belgian frites first and everyone kept telling us to try Place Flagey frites, so we did! Spot Liz lining up. Woot woot!
Apparently this is one of the most famous frites stalls in Brussels so we really looked for it. Their frites are so crispy and delicious, you’d want to eat it everyday.
We also visited a food market at Place du Chatelain and it was a fun experience because apparently, we went at the perfect time. Next day was a holiday so everybody was out to eat, drink and have a great time! We got wine, cold cuts and cheese and just sat on the grass. We really got some alone time and bonded for hours. These are the moment where you just want to put all your gadgets down and just appreciate the moment.
After the market, our driver brought us to this beautiful open space where you get to see the sunset. It was just an amazing view. First day well spent!
The next day, I ordered savoury crepe for breakfast before going around the neighbourhood. Their crepes are also to die for!
First stop: Notre Dame au Sablon church. Every new country we go to, my family always makes sure we visit a church to say three wishes. Our intention was to do just that, but we were so lucky that there was an ongoing mass happening inside when we went.
The mass was in French and we really didn’t understand anything but we knew the flow and so we stayed and finished mass. I cried inside the church because I couldn’t believe we got to attend mass in Brussels. Thank you Lord for all the blessings!
Pierre Marcolini is the most wanted chocolate brand in Brussels and you’ll see their stores in almost every corner! Ang lakas maka Starbucks ng peg. They also have a collaboration with Peter Pilotto now. This was my pasalubong to my friends.
Last stop: Atomium. We just had to see the Eiffel Tower of Brussels. It’s a building originally constructed for Expo 58 during 1958 and the whole forms the shape of a unit cell of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. Whoaaaaa.
What else to do in Brussels? Try their Belgian waffles!!! I think everyone knows this about me: my favourite dessert in the whole world is banana Nutella waffle with vanilla ice cream on top- and I can really say that they have the best waffles in the world. Oh, what I’d do just so I can eat another one right now.
Brussels, you’ve been amazing! I really hope I can go back so I can see more of what you have to offer. BMS.
